William Kinderman is Professor of Music at the University of Illinois and recently taught as DAAD Guest Professor at the University of Munich. His books include Mozart’s Piano Music, Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations, and Beethoven (all with Oxford University Press), along with many other studies. As a pianist, he has recorded Beethoven’s last sonatas and “Diabelli” Variations, which are available through Arietta Records. Alfred Brendel has described Kinderman as “a very rare bird” on account of his ability to combine scholarship and performance. Kinderman often gives lec- ture-recitals and has served in the juries of international piano competitions. In 2010 he was awarded a Research Prize for lifetime achievement from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
