Cathy Smetana enjoys teaching students of all ages, creating independent musicians who can problem-solve and practice on their own, thereby equipping them for a lifetime of musical enjoyment. She loves teaching beginners, instilling in them good habits right from the beginning, as well as working with busy teenagers, helping them achieve great results in spite of their busy schedules. She has been teaching for 20 plus years and has been at MacPhail Center for Music in Minnesota since 2000. 

Cathy holds a Bachelor of Music degree with an emphasis in piano performance from Goshen College and a Master of Music degree in piano performance and pedagogy from the Westminster Choir College of Rider University.
